👋 Hi,

tbd/con is a free virtual conference, Sept. 23-24, 2026\. The premise is that AI isn't arriving cleanly and the conversations about it shouldn't be either. So bring your open questions and let's talk them through.

Three things this week:

First, those of you who have registered through this site or the event site: you should have received a **calendar invite** from us for day 1, Sept. 23\.

Accept it to hold the date, it will get the event link to the gather.town venue (preview below) when it's ready (still testing and building). We'll also email you this link on the morning of the 23rd.

Not getting the invite, or any other questions or issues? Email us [tbdcon@gazzetta.xyz](mailto:tbdcon@gazzetta.xyz).

Second, **the** [**program**](https://www.gazzetta.xyz/tbdcon-program/). So far we have 22 sessions on Sept. 23, in four circles (information, thought, garage, practice) running two or three at a time. You can move between them whenever you like, or start your own conversation on the virtual beach.

A few of the sessions:

- A test of how six AI models answer loaded questions about Iran, Ukraine, China, and the far right, in several languages. The scoring is left unfinished on purpose, for attendees to discuss and explore.
- A system built with the BBC and Stanford that seals a published claim to its original source. If either side changes, the seal breaks.
- A live demo of data journalism served by an agent instead of an article.
- A software engineer's year of failed AI products for local news. Bring your own failures!
- A linguist on why people fall in love with the "author" of an LLM's words.
- A facilitated conversation about how to talk to your friends who hate AI about how you use it.

The full list, with speakers, is at [gazzetta.xyz/tbdcon-program](https://www.gazzetta.xyz/tbdcon-program/). We're still finalizing a few sessions, so expect it to keep filling in. Sept. 24 will be a self-organized unconference. More on that next week.

Third, this got way bigger than we anticipated and we could use some help. If you'd like to **volunteer** during the event, mostly helping people find their way around the space and the technology, reply to this email.

Next email in a few days.
